FRANKFURT, Germany--(UNB/AP) - German television says it has discovered previously unreleased photos of Adolf Hitler's mistress Eva Braun from a private album she gave to a few close friends as a gift. ZDF public TV, which aired some of the pictures Sunday, said it discovered a copy of the album with some 100 photos and embossed with Braun's initials. The station said the owner is American, but gave no details. With her wavy blonde hair and dark eyes, Braun appears in the portraits as a young woman desperate for attention. In 1936, Hitler brought his young mistress to his Alpine quarters in southern Germany where she lived for the next nine years in virtual seclusion. When Hitler found out about the portraits, he felt the photographer who'd taken them had gotten too close to his mistress and ordered him to the front in World War II, according to ZDF. Braun committed suicide with Hitler near the end of the war on April 30, 1945, three days after marrying him. She has since been the subject of much intrigue and speculation, as well as several books and plays. |
