BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (UNB/AP) - Following the first unabridged Czech-language version published in March, the first Slovak translation ever of Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" has hit bookstores in the Slovak capital.

Unlike the Czech translation, the Slovak edition includes 30 pages of commentary written by translator Roman Vyskocil, 73, who tried to outline the character of the Nazi dictator and explain some of the author's positions expressed in the book.

A clerk of the Nona bookstore on Bratislava's busy downtown Obchodna Street said Thursday the first delivery of "Mein Kampf" was already sold out and they were expecting more copies on Friday. She did not give her name. Another bookstore said it would not put the book on sale.

"We do not want to make propaganda for fascism," publisher Agnes Burdova was quoted as saying by the daily Sme.

The paper quoted Vyskocil, who is a psychologist, that the Slovak nation needs to know about Hitler.

"I remember the times when Hitler lived," he said. "The Germans shot dead my schoolmate."

The publisher of the Czech version of Hitler's book was sentenced earlier this month to paying a fine of dlrs 50,000 and received a three-year suspended sentence for promoting Nazism.

A total of 5,000 copies of the Slovak translation have been printed.
