U.N. Police forms unit to fight organized crime in Kosovo |

PRISTINA-- (AP) , U.N. police have formed a unit to attack organized crime in Kosovo, a spokesman said Monday. The Organized Crime Intelligence Unit comprises about 30 officers hand,picked for their expertise in investigating organized crime elsewhere, said the U.N. police spokesman, Derek Chappell. The officers will coordinate and analyze information from a wide variety of sources to target suspects for arrest and prosecution, he said. The identity and nationality of the officers will be kept secret for security reasons, Chappell said. The unit will be based on premises of NATO,led peacekeepers. U.N. police Monday presented a police canine unit to combat illegal activities on the borders, Chappell said. This unit from Ukraine consists of 25 dogs, 10 of which will be trained to detect narcotics, five to smell explosives and 10 to patrol. |
