BANGKOK-- (AP) , Thai police said Monday they filed a charge of attempted murder against a teacher accused of badly beating one of her charges at a child, care center. Supamas Ulawang, 29, was arrested on Thursday and charged with attempting to kill Mukmanee Sungwang, 2, said police Capt. Veera Tippahon of the Pak Kred police station in Nonthaburi, just north of Bangkok. Supamas was a teacher at a shelter for children whose parents are in jail. She was accused by her colleagues of stomping on Mukmanee's stomach several times as punishment for bad behavior, Veera said. Mukmanee was sent to the hospital in a coma. A doctor told police that the girl's intestines were seriously damaged. Supamas denied the allegation but was detained for further investigation. The other 15 children at the shelter were sent to be closely examined at a hospital as Supamas's colleagues said she beat up several other children as well. If convicted, Supamas could face a jail term of up to 30 years, Veera said. |
