TOKYO, APR 17 (AP) - Japan would welcome the presence of representatives from developing countries at the G-8 summit in July, an official said Monday.

"We are glad to hear their views and interests," said Kazuhiko Koshikawa, the chief spokesman for Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori.

Leaders at last week's Group of 77 summit of developing nations in Havana, Cuba, said they would send a delegation to Okinawa.

Koshikawa said Tokyo had not yet been informed of the plan, but that a request to attend would be "pretty much welcome."

Japan has said it hopes to focus on the needs of poorer countries, especially in Asia, during the July summit of the world's richest nations.

Developing countries and anti-free-trade activists accuse industrialized countries of ignoring the concerns of the poor while charting the future of the global economy.
