JAKARTA, MAY 15 (AP) - A strong earthquake hit a remote area of Indonesia on Monday, shaking houses and damaging buildings, but no casualties were immediately reported.
The quake struck in central Sulawesi island, 200 kilometers (120 miles) from the site of an even strong temblor and tsunamis that killed more than 46 people, injured more than 100 and left 30,000 homeless on May 4.
Monday's quake had a magnitude 6.2 and was centered under the sea about 560 kilometers (347 miles) southeast of the town of Palu, the Hong Kong Observatory said. The town is about 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) northeast of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital.
Indonesia, the world's biggest archipelago nation, is prone to frequent seismic upheavals, sitting on major fault lines.
