May 28, 2000 NEW DELHI, MAY 27 (AP) - Three ministers were inducted into the Cabinet of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Saturday to fill in vacancies that arose because of resignations.
President K. R. Narayanan administered the oath of secrecy to Nitish Kumar, Arjun Charan Singh and Braja Kishore Tripathy in a nationally televised ceremony in the presidential mansion.
The
new ministers are members of parties that are coalition partners
in Vajpayee's National Democratic Alliance. Kumar is from the Janata Dal
(United) party and Singh and Tripathy are from the Biju Janata Dal party which governs the eastern state of Orissa. Kumar, formerly Railway Minister in Vajpayee's Cabinet, resigned earlier this year to become the chief minister of Bihar state. But his administration was short-lived.
In an internet chat show earlier this week, Prime Minister Vajpayee said would expand and reshuffle his Cabinet. Some changes would be made in economy-related ministries, he said.
No
departments have been allocated to the news ministers yet, but a
public announcement is expected soon. |
