The U.S. Embassy and Kohl's office in Berlin confirmed the two were in talks on exactly where and when they could get together.
A Kohl spokesman said the meeting would take place Friday in Berlin, but details were not set. The embassy press office said only that the meeting would be private. Clinton would be the first foreign leader to meet with Kohl since the former chancellor's reputation was shattered following his admission last December of accepting illegal campaign contributions while in office.
The two last met in Washington in April, when Clinton awarded Kohl the United States' highest civilian award saluting his 16 years as German chancellor and the personal "chemistry" the two leaders shared.
