LONDON(AP) - Prime Minister Tony Blair's 16-year-old son was arrested after being found "drunk and incapable" in London's Leicester Square, news reports said Thursday. Euan Blair was found by police officers in Leicester Square, in the heart of London's West End, about 11 p.m. (2200 GMT) Wednesday, according to the British news agency Press Association and SKY-TV. He was by himself, the reports said. Scotland Yard did not release Euan Blair's name, but confirmed a 16-year-old youth had been arrested late Wednesday in Leicester Square and taken to Charing Cross police station. "A male youth was arrested at 2300 last night in Leicester Square for being drunk and incapable," Scotland Yard said in a statement. "Police were not responding to a call regarding the person, an officer on patrol just came upon him." An ambulance was called because officers were concerned about the boy's condition, but he was not taken to a hospital, the statement said. The youth was released without charge early Thursday, but Scotland Yard would not confirm whether his parents came to the police station to get him. Blair's Downing Street office said the prime minister would have no immediate comment. The arrest would be an extra embarrassment for Blair, coming days after his call for police to be given powers to levy on-the-spot fines on drunken hooligans. Blair and his wife, Cherie, have gone to great lengths to protect the privacy of their children - Euan, Nicky, 14, Kathryn, 12, and baby Leo, born May 20. |
