RECANATI, Italy (AP) - Rina Gigli, a soprano who sang professionally with her tenor father, Beniamino Gigli, died Tuesday of cancer in her hometown here in central Italy. She was 84. Gigli debuted in Parma in 1943 along with her father in "La Traviata," which remained her favorite musical moment, said her cousin Luigi Vincenzoni. Throughout her career, which spanned more than three decades and took her around the world, she performed several times with her father in other operas. Rina Gigli spent her childhood in New York while her father was a leading tenor with the Metropolitan Opera in the 1920s and 1930s. She is survived by a son, Maurizio, of Rome. |
