Shock

 

 

Description : a dangerous drop in vital bodily functions, caused by intense pain, extreme fear, blood loss, overwhelming infection, or other trauma.

What you need to know :

  • Shock occurs in response to severe injuries or other medical emergencies. Treat the emergency before treating for shock. 

  • Always seek medical help as quickly  as possible  

Get professional help If:

  • You think your child is in shock. Get help now.

  • It is rarely wise to move a shock victim to medical help. Call for an ambulance.

 Supplies : blanket. pillow   

Symptoms

  • pale moist, clammy skin

  • weakness, apathy, incoherence, unresponsiveness

  • rapid,, weak pulse ( check pulse at jaw-line)

  • fast, shallow irregular breathing

  • nausea

What to check:

  • Deal first with the primary emergence that led to shock

Treatment :

  • Keep your child warm, not hot. Loosen  tight clothing.

  • Place her on her back ; raise feet slightly with a ; pillow.

  • Never administer fluids.  

  • Never move children who may have neck or spinal injuries.

  • A child with face or mouth injuries may have trouble  breathing . Place her on her side to ease breathing unless neck or spine are injured.
