Origin
of Jewelry
In
scientists opinion mankind came to existence in the earth before
some two million years back. They are now far ahead in
consideration of invention, which they did simply to meet up
their needs. The beauty of nature prompted them to beautify
themselves. Love for beauty and desire to look beautiful to one
another encouraged them to invent beautifying materials called
‘jewelry’. Such is the assumption about invention of
jewelry.
At
the very outset of civilization ornaments were not made of
metals like what we do today. Those were collected from nature.
Flowers, feathers of birds, bones of various animals, stones,
oyster shells, leaves, wild fruit, barks of trees etc. were used
as ornaments.
People
irrespective of males and females used those for beautification.
Still these type of natural ornaments are noticed to be used
among the tribal people of Asia and Africa.
We
find colorful description of use of Jewelry of gods in ‘Bed’
the religious book of Hindu race. Varieties of metals and stones
were used by gods and goddesses as ornaments.
In
Ramayana it is described that in her wedding ceremony Seeta
wore a saree as red as blood. Her whole body was
decorated with ornaments of gold.
There
was a variety in jewelry from the 1st to the 7th
century, which depicts a picture of additional taste of people
of that age.
In
the sculptures of kanarak Surya Mondir of the 13th
century we find an account of women of complex and acute art of
Jewelry.
In
the description of tourist Manuchi a description of the
ornaments of the women of the Daccan is found. They used to wear
necklaces and jewels. Women in the Royal Palace in Mughal regime
used to wear necklaces of pearl, bangles in ankles, and various
types of ornaments. They wore pearl even with the laces of
trousers.
There
was habit of wearing ornaments in the oldest civilization of
Egypt. Faraw Emperors used to wear ornaments of rich art.
Greeks were expert goldsmiths. They brought a remarkable change
in jewelry art.
In
Renaissance age a great change in Jewelry industry was made.
Gradually
gold became the best demand for ornamental purpose, which exists
until today. Because of shortage of gold availability, a culture
of making artistic ornaments with less quantity of gold
flourished. Thus came the idea of artistic designs in ornaments.
Jewelry
industry is flourishing fast in our country. Acute art of
ornaments of our industries are praiseworthy. After liberation,
import of foreign Jewelry increased by dint of development of
communication means.
