Childhood
I
was the first baby of my family. So I got special care from all
other members of our family specially from my grand mother. My
father was a head master of a high school. My mother was housewife
but she had special fascination to teach her children in all
aspects of every day life.
Education
I
started my education in a primary village school. I heard from my
parent that I was very good in education from early life.
After
finishing my primary education, I got admitted to Muslim Girl’s
School at Mymensingh. I got junior scholarship in class eight. I
passed S.S.C in 1966 in the First Division with distinction and
H.S.C in 1968 from Muminun Nessa Women’s College in First
Division. While studying at school and college I was very good in
Mathematics. So my math teacher always wanted me to study in
Mathematics. I had an intention to be a doctor or a high
government official.
Finally
I did BSc (Honors) in Mathematics from Dhaka University. I stood 2nd
class 2nd in my BSc examination in 1973 and 2nd
class in MSc in 1975.
In
my Honors examination after liberation some male teacher gave me poor
marks in my viva which pushed me to end up with a 2nd
class. I do not know why they did it?
Just for only that I was a female student !
During
my service I completed an MS in Public Administration from the
Harvard University of USA under Mason Program in 1991-92.
Career
After
Liberation war I started my career with OXFAM in
Dinajpur Area When I was a student of MSc. After finishing my Masters I
worked in Tejgaon Mahila College for more than six months. At the same
time I finished my BEd degree from Dhaka University. In 1976, I
joined in a road transport project in the Planning Commission.
The
age of my service life in government sector is about 22 years. 12th
December 1977, I started my career as a class one officer of
Bangladesh Civil Service. I worked in the areas of planning,
development and administration of the country. I Worked as Research
Officer in Communication and Transport as well as Assistant Chief.
I was an active member of a team responsible for drawing up 20
years perspective plan, midterm plan and annual development plan
of jute and textile sector. I worked as the director of the
President Secretariat. I also Worked as Asst. Chief in National
Economic Council.
Impression
of life partner
When
I was a student of 1st year honors, I got married and my
husband was a class one officer of East Pakistan Civil Service. He
was then posted at Dinajpur as a magistrate. He is now in LPR from this year as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of
Religion. I received very positive impressions of him from the
early stage of our couple life about my study and career. As he
was a government service holder he also wanted me to be in government
service. He gave me freedom to choose my career. If my husband
would not allow me it would be difficult on my past to continue my
study and end up with a good job. I am always grateful to him
in this respect.
Impression
of family
My
father and uncles always inspired me to be in a very good position
of government. My father-in-law died before my marriage. My
brother-in-laws also were in favor of my education and profession.
In my position, my family members never asked me to leave the job.
If they did, I believe that I would be able to convince them.
Environment
of service place
I
have got a nice environment of working place. My big bosses are
very cordial and cooperative. Subordinates are also disciplined.
Only some lower staffs who are irregular in service often caused
difficulties for me. As a woman I do not find any discrepancy at
my office. I think woman officers who are undisciplined may face
problems.
My
child
My
only son now doing MS in Computer Science in the
University of Massachusetts, USA. When he was a little kid I have
to face some difficulties to adjust times among my study, office and
to look after him. Our (me and my husband) all dreams are
surrounded by him.
