BSMRAU is located at Salna, Gazipur about 40 km
north of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It is originated
from the
Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA). It was
metamorphosed as Bangladesh College of Agricultural Sciences in in 1983 and subsequently developed into a postgraduate institute by an act
in the Parliament (act No. 1 of 1994) through the active
collaboration and cooperation of the Government of Bangladesh, Japan
and U.S.A. In 1998
IPSA has been renamed as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Agricultural University by an Act in the Parliament (act No. 16 of
1998).
The goal of BSMRAU is to contribute
the growth and development of the farm economy in Bangladesh by
providing intellectual leadership and by producing quality graduates
at the M.S. and Ph.D. Level. BSMRAU strengthens its postgraduate
education and research programs with an outreach program designed to improve the economic well-being of farmers and to accelerate rural
development.
