Procurement of gantry cranes for Chittagong Port underway |

Dhaka, -- (UNB) – A process to procure four quay gantry and one yard gantry cranes for Chittagong Port is underway. Steps have also been taken under ‘Container Handling Equipment-including Gantry Crane Procurement’ Project’ to procure three T reach stackers for handling loaded containers at the port. The disclosure was made at a meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry at Sangsad Bhaban with committee Chairman Col (retd) Shawkat Ali in the chair. The meeting also discussed the issues relating to leasing out lands of Chittagong Port to Karnaphuli Paper Products, training, appointment and working hours of Bangladesh Naval-Commercial officers and Watch Keeping Regulation-2000. The meeting advised the authorities concerned to take proper measures to make BITWC a profitable organisation. It also expressed deep shock at the death of Awami League Leader and Minister Salahuddin Yusuf and prayed for salvation of the departed soul. Committee members State Minister for Shipping Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Deputy Minister for Food Dhirendra Devnath Shambhu, ABM Abul Kashem, Meer Shakawat Ali (Daru), Mahmuda Sawgat and Golam Faruque Ovi attended the meeting. Shipping Secretary Sohel Ahmed and senior officials concerned were present. |
