Dhaka-- (UNB) – The High Court yesterday stayed election to the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) scheduled for October 12. Meanwhile, Yusuf Abdullah Haroon, was declared unofficially elected unopposed as president of FBCCI. The order for stay till October 22 by the vacation bench of Justice Amriul Kabir Chowdhury came upon a writ petition by Mohammad Morselin, president of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce. Challenging the election the petitioners contended that he and five other members of Gaibandha Chamber were neither allowed to contest nor cast votes. Moving the petition Barrister Moudud Ahmed said Abdulla Harun and his associates declared them elected uncontested in a surreptitious manner depriving the petitioners from contesting in the election. |
