Dhaka (UNB) – Commerce Minister Abdul Jalil yesterday underscored the need for mobilizing internal savings as a means of the country’s financial solvency. “There is no other alternative to achieve economic solvency,” he said addressing at the biennial convention of Life Insurance Development Officers and Managers Welfare Association at the Engineers Institute here. “Insurance and savings are closely related with one another,” the Commerce Minister said adding “investment increases with the increase of savings which ultimately create employment opportunities.” Jalil said that the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman formed the Jiban Bima Corporation for the socio-economic development of the country. He, however, called upon all to work unitedly to ensure economic emancipation of the people and build a “self-reliant Bangladesh”. Referring to the demands of the insurance development officers and managers the Commerce Minister said the government is trying to fulfill their just demands. Jalil declared introduction of gratuity and contributory provident funds for the insurance development officers and managers and asked the authorities concerned to introduce housing-loan for them. He also assured that necessary steps would be taken so that the field representatives could get license easily. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jiban Bima Corporation M Matiur Rahman chaired the inaugural session, also addressed by its Director Fazlul Quader Maznu and Managing Director of the Board NW Khandoker. |
