Industries Minister urges BSTI to maintain international level |

Dhaka (UNB) – Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed urged the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) to ensure the standard of industrial and manufacturing goods of the international level. “You are the custodians of maintaining rights of the consumers by allowing only standardized goods for marketing,” he told the BSTI officials. He also asked them to give special care in determining and ensuring standard of food items. The minister was addressing the council meeting of BSTI at the conference room of BSTI at Tejgaon here yesterday. BSTI is the only institution in the country to determine the standard of industrial goods, food items and chemicals. It also to ensure the standard of goods and control the quality of the products. Tofail, also Chairman of the BSTI council, asked the officials to take stern action against the companies who market substandard products. He said government would not tolerate negligence in ensuring consumers’ rights. To determine the standard of the goods timely and properly, the council yesterday reconstituted six departmental committees of BSTI. The committees are agriculture and food, jute and textile, chemicals, electrical and electronics and engineering products. The council approved the setting up of a computer cell in BSTI with all IT facilities. It also approved installation of divisional offices of BSTI in Barisal and Sylhet. |
