Panchagarh, Apr 6 (UNB) – Tea plantation started in village Mandulpara with planting saplings in Tetulia Tea Garden, a private concern, on Sunday. Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board Brig Janiel Isalm formally inaugurated the garden by planting a sapling. Director of Tetulia Tea Company Musharraf Hossain presided over the function that was attended by Director of Bangladesh Tea Board S A Hasib, Director General of James Finlay M Kashem and senior officials. With opening of the tea garden a long cherished dream of people of northern region was fulfilled. It was in 1968 that the tea researchers found the soil and climate of the region favorable for plantation. But it was not done for long 32 years due to negligence of the Tea Board.
Tea Board will provide saplings to the landowners free of cost for a period of 5 years and also provide loans totaling Tk 1.5 lakh per hectare among the planters. It is expected that initially 10 lakh saplings will be planted. |
