PM’s attention sought for expansion of Bangladesh’s labor market abroad |

May 10 (UNB) – The recruiting agencies have sought the Prime
Minister’s special attention for expansion of Bangladesh’s labor
market abroad. For
boosting manpower export, Bangladesh Association of International
Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) submitted a set of recommendations to Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday. It
called for establishing a modern training institute, expanding
Bangladesh’s labor market in Malaysia, reintroducing labor market in
Kuwait, introducing special employment passport and labor fare and finding
new labor market in USA, Germany and Japan. Seeking
government help in establishing a most modern BAIRA technical and
vocational training institute, it said the institution will provide
international standard training enabling export of skilled manpower
increasing the remittance four times higher. Bangladesh’s
annual foreign exchange earning from its laborers, mostly unskilled or
semi-skilled, working abroad is about Tk 9,000 crore. The
Philippines’ manpower export is only one-fourth of Bangladesh, but its
annual remittance is 2.5 billions dollars. Exporting skilled manpower is
the main reason of higher income of the Philippines. Thanking
the Prime Minister for her special effort in legalizing 1.5 lakh
Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, the BAIRA emphasized the need for a
bilateral agreement between the two countries. “Previous
experiences showed that in some cases Malaysian government suspended the
work orders after the recruiting agencies got demand of workers and began
the recruiting process,” said BAIRA in its recommendation. Malaysia
is the second largest Bangladeshi labor employer after Saudi Arabia.
