Chittagong, May 16 (UNB) – The weekly tea sale here today (Tuesday) witnessed a good demand for all clean well made types, particularly Fannings that appreciated in price. Poorer types were again discounted and often proved difficult of sale. There were quite heavy withdrawals in this category, according to a market report of National Brokers Ltd. Internal buyers absorbed most of the offerings whilst there was limited enquiry from Pakistan for small Brokens and Fannings at between Tk 48 and Tk 51. CTC Leaf: 8,234 chests, 6,653 gunny sacks and (445 chests and 1,343 gunny sacks of old season) on offer met with a good general demand. CTC Brokens: A handful of small Brokens met with a strong demand and were dearer by Tk 2 to Tk 3, but all others were slightly easier following quality. Medium Brokens met with a fair demand and were generally lower by Tk 1 to Tk 3. Large and bold Brokens met with a selective demand and were generally easier. Poorest types met with a limited enquiry and were discounted up to Tk 5 with heavy withdrawals. CTC Fannings: Well made Fannings once again met with a strong demand and advanced by Tk 2 to Tk 4 whilst others were also a dearer market but poorest types often easier by Tk 2 to Tk 3. CTC Dust: 623 chests and 1,954 and (5 chests and 190 gunny sacks of old season) on offer met with a stronger demand. Good liquoring types were once again a dearer market advancing by Tk 5 for RDs/Ds and up to Tk 10 for CDs. Others were mostly an easier market with the plainer liquoring types easing by Tk 5 and more following quality. Blenders and loose tea buyers lent good support particularly for the better liquoring types. |
