TOKYO, MAY 22 (AP) - Brisk sales in North American and other overseas markets boosted global production at Japan's five major automakers in April, the companies said Monday.
Toyota Motor Corp., Japan's largest automaker, said its worldwide production rose 5.4 percent from last April to 397,400 units.
Toyota's exports climbed 20.4 percent to 163,400 units - the third month of increases.
Toyota's domestic sales rose 1.5 percent to 119,350, its first increase in two months, the company said.

Honda Motor's worldwide production increased 4.6 percent to 199,114 units. Its exports rose 28.9 percent to 56,706 units, thanks to increased demand in North America and Asia.
Honda's domestic sales rose 13.1 percent to 55,203 units for the fifth consecutive month of increases. Mitsubishi Motors Corp., recorded global output of 130,910 units, up 7.7 percent. Its exports surged 48.5 percent to 28,877 units, while sales in Japan fell 7.1 percent to 36,956 units.
