Sangsad Bhaban (UNB) – Parliament yesterday passed the supplementary budget of about Tk 4,489.68 crore to meet additional expenses for the current fiscal year (1999-2000).
The additional fund has been allocated on 69 heads of expenditure of the State.
Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria moved the bill demanding additional allocations and it was passed by voice vote.
According to Parliament officials, this is for the first time in Bangladesh’s history that a supplementary budget was passed without any opposition or cut motion.
This has happened due to the absence of the opposition MPs, said the officials adding that cut motions normally come from the opposition.
Of the total additional allocation, Tk 2,543.39 crore has been earmarked for non-development expenditure while Tk 1,946.68 crore for the development budget.
The highest allocation of additional expenditure is Tk 504.55 crore for disaster management and relief ministry’s development expenditure.
Under the development budget, the additional expenditure allocated for the Prime Minister’s office is Tk 12.56 crore while for non-development expenditure the allocation is Tk 3.99 crore.
