Chittagong (UNB) – Tea sale witnessed quite a sharp decline in price, dropping by upto Tk 4 to Tk 5. There was only some interest from blenders but loose tea buyers were not as strong as previous weeks. There was only fair inquiry from Pakistan at much reduced limits. These buyers operated between Tk 51.50 and Tk 54.59. There was a limited interest from Russian buyers at lower rates. Details of the report:

CTC Leaf: 10,001 chests, 9,045 g/sacks, 100 p/sacks and (45 chests 1,993 g/sacks of old season) on offer met with much less demand and prices eased substantially as the sale progressed.

Brokens: All brokens met with only a fair demand and prices further declined by upto Tk 4 but the larger grades were mostly lower by Tk 5 with some withdrawals. Plainest types were also much easier.

Fannings: Fannings opened on a weak note, selling upto Tk 3 below last levels but as the sale progressed, were easier by upto Tk 4. Only a handful of brighter teas remained fairly steady.

Green Tea: 60 chests on offer met with a good demand. FYH sold at Tk 97 and YH at Tk 102.

CTC Dust: 1,434 chests, 2,764 g/sacks and (43 g/sacks of old season) on offer met with much less demand at easier rates. All grades were lower by Tk 5 to Tk 7 and sometimes more with fair withdrawals. Loose tea buyers lent some support but major blenders were absent.
