Oil tanker with diesel catches fire |

Narayanganj (UNB)- An oil tanker anchored on Sitalakhya river with 2000 liters of diesel was caught in fire causing extensive damage on Monday midnight. The fire was blazing for four hours when fire fighters from 3 fire stations struggled hard and brought it under control after 2 hours. Police and witnesses said that the fire originated from the engine room of the Mini Titanic Floating Pump in the river near the Barafkal area of the town at 12-15 am yesterday (Tuesday). Built at a cost of Tk 30 lakh the tanker of Padma Oil Company was put into operation on experimental basis three days back. When the fire took a devastating turn the workers jumped into the river to save their life. The blazing tanker at one stage floated to the Kerosene Ghat. Ten firemen were injured while extinguishing the fire. The extent of damage could not be estimated immediately. Police seized the tanker and a case was filed. |
