Dhaka (UNB) - Cattle and poultry farms under public sector produced about one crore eggs, 48 lakh chicks and 5.5 lakh liters of milk in 1999-2000 fiscal. The farms achieved 90 percent of their production target, officials told a conference of government farm managers at the Livestock Department conference room yesterday (Thursday). Fisheries and Livestock Minister ASM Abdur Rab attended the conference as chief guest. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Prof M Abdul Quddus, Secretary Syed Margub Morshed and Director (Production) of Livestock Department Abdur Razzak also spoke on the occasion. The government farms sell one-day-old chicks to NGOs like BRAC, Proshika, Swanirvar Bangladesh and Grameen Krishi Foundation for self-employment generation of the poor, said an official handout. Addressing the conference, the Fisheries and Livestock Minister stressed on skilled and dynamic management for public sector farms in order to expand the livestock and poultry sector. |
