6 sector corporations’ 6-point demand |

Dhaka (UNB) – Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed urged CBA leaders of various sector corporations to increase production and overall productivity to establish a healthy economic environment in the corporations. He said it would then be easy to provide all welfare services to employees of the corporations. The minister was talking to the CBA leaders of the six sector corporations in the banner of `Sector Corporation Sangram Parisad’ when they called on the minister to inform him their 6-point demand at the Industry Ministry here yesterday (Sunday). Led by Conveyor of the Sangram Parisad and CBA President of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation Kutub Uddin Ahmed, the meeting was attended, among others, by joint conveyors Mohammad Abdul Malek and Mirza Khairul Alam, CBA leaders Reza Awal Mirdha, Sowkat Ali and Mohammad Delwar Hossain. The leaders requested the Minister to cancel the acquisition of 20bigha land that they purchased at Banani residential area from RAJUK in 1963 for housing of officials and employees of the six corporations. The leaders said plots on the land were distributed among six corporations in 80s and accordingly, Petrobangla, BSEC have constructed buildings and allotted officials are residing there. It may be mentioned that government has decided to take up the land for the construction of NAM village. The leaders said it is long ardent dream of the officials and employees of the six corporations that they would be provided with residential facilities but the requisition has created a tense situation among the employees of the corporations. “We don’t want to embarrass the government anyway but we want our land back,” the leaders said also demanding immediate declaration of the pay commission. Giving patient hearing to their demand, the minister said present government is very sincere to protect the interest of the workers and employees of the sector corporations. He said most of the enterprises under sector corporations are running with loss but the government has been organising fund to continue production. Tofail said government will soon declare the pay commission for the workers and it will be effective from July 1997. He said it is the ideology of the Awami League to provide support to low-paid people so that they can contribute the economy equally.
