Bangladesh-Denmark sign ‘umbrella agreement’ |

Dhaka (UNB) – Bangladesh will receive 924.20 million Danish Kroner (equivalent to approximately Tk 650 crore) as grant from Denmark under an agreement signed yesterday. This is an umbrella agreement. The Danish contribution will be used for implementation of the 14-sub components under 3 components of the sector programme support to Transport Sector in Bangladesh. The name of the components are (I) Inland Water Transport (ii) Major Roads, (iii) Minor Roads and District Maintenance systems. For each of the sub components separate agreement will be signed under this umbrella agreement, said an official handout. The objectives of the Transport Sector programme support are establishment of rehabilitation and maintenance systems for major and minor roads and waterways which will address a network approach, and environment problems, poverty reduction and promotion of women’s participation. Dr Masihur Rahman, Secretary, ERD and Finn Thilsted, Ambassador of Royal Danish Embassy to Bangladesh signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments. |
