Dhaka, Sept 1 (UNB)- Bangladesh and Bhutan today (Friday) signed an agreed minutes aiming to increase investment and bilateral trade between the two countries. The two sides agreed to renew the existing bilateral trade agreement for three more years as its tenure expires on September 8 this year. Commerce Secretary Golam Rahman signed the accord on behalf of Bangladesh while Foreign Secretary Dasho Ugen Shering on behalf of Bhutan. “If any change and modification is necessary, it will have to be done within next six months,” said an official announcement. As per protocol, Bhutan can use land and air routes for commodity transportation at present. Bangladesh requested Bhutan to send formal proposal when the Himalayan Kingdom proposed to use naval routes to increase bilateral trade. The two sides will sit for a meeting in the Bhutanese capital Thimpu next year to review bilateral trade scenario. The minutes contain detailed review of trade between the two neighbouring countries as well as ways of enhancing trade volume. Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Dasho Latu Wangchuk and senior officials were present in the signing ceremony. |
