Dhaka (UNB) – Government will set up another unit of Essential Drug Company Limited (EDCL) in Khulna to meet the growing demand for medicines. Health Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim made the disclosure while addressing a meeting at Bangladesh Shishu Academy here Wednesday. The minister said EDCL is the only state-owned drug manufacturing organisation that earned a remarkable profit of Tk 8 crore in the last fiscal year. He called upon the EDCL officials and workers to put in their extra efforts to achieve the government target. EDCL supplies a huge quantity of essential drugs to all government hospitals every year. Nepal, Bhutan, Germany, UNICEF and WHO have shown keen interest to buy EDCL medicines because of its quality and cost effectiveness, Selim said, according to a PID handout. |
