Dhaka (UNB) – Denmark has assured Bangladesh of continued assistance in the country’s agricultural development. The assurance came when Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Finn Thilsted called on Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury at her office yesterday (Tuesday). Bangladesh so far received Tk 370 crore from Denmark as technical support in land development, land resources management, Integrated Pest Management and seed development. During the meeting, the Agriculture Minister and Danish envoy discussed bilateral issues particularly on agricultural sector development and food production. The minister said Bangladesh has achieved food autarky through skilled management and modern technology and making agricultural materials and loan easy available. “Despite shortage of cultivable land, we are taking various measures to meet the demand of the growing population,” she said. Stressing the need for dredging of rivers, water preservation for irrigation and flood control, she sought assistance from the Danish government in this regard. |
