Salman & Latifur quit race for FBCCI President |

Dhaka, --– Ending wide speculations about the ensuing FBCCI election, only two candidates yesterday (Thursday) submitted their nomination papers for the president post. Federation’s former president Yussuf Abdullah Harun submitted his candidature for the post from Comilla Chamber while his lone contender Aminul Haq is from Natore Chamber. Yesterday was the last date of filing nomination papers for the election scheduled for October 12. For the vice president post, three candidates – Mohammad Ali, Gazi Golam Dastagir and Khurshid Ali Mollah -- filed their nominations from different trade associations. A total of 88 candidates –- 49 from Association Group and 39 from Chamber Group – submitted nomination papers to run for 30 executive committee member posts, 15 from each group. The final list of candidates will be announced on September 20 after scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawal of the same. Earlier, there were wide speculations that three top business leaders – Harun, Salman F Rahman and Latifur Rahman – would be vying for the coveted post of FBCCI president. The 32-member executive body of the country’s top business forum is elected every two years. This year, its president will be elected from Chamber Group while the vice president from Association Group. The number of voters in Chamber Group is 267 while 795 voters were enrolled from the Association group. |
