Khulna,
May 14 (UNB)- Ershad Shikdar and his two associates were today
sentenced to death for murder of Advocate Jahangir Kabir Fatiq two
years ago.
This
was the third death sentence handed down to Ershad Shikdar, top terror
of Khulna, and his close accomplices Liaqat Laskar and Jamai Farooq in
less than three months.
The
judge in his verdict also sentenced Abdus Sabur to life imprisonment
and Idris Jamai and Ayub Ali Munshi to seven years’ rigorous
imprisonment each for the murder of young advocate.
Fatiq
was brutally killed on April 6, 1998 at Ghat No.4 here for his alleged
illicit relation with Khodeja Begum, first wife of Ershad Shikdar.
After killing, the body of Fatiq was thrown into the Bhairab river.
Additional
District and Sessions Judge Hasan Imam in charge of the Special Court
after examining witnesses and records pronounced the verdict in a
jam-packed court.
Ayub
Ali and Khodeja Begum were tried in absentia.
Two
accused in the case Nur-e-Alam who turned approver and Khodeja Begum
were acquitted.
