          Rangpur,
          May 24 (UNB) – Arsenic, a deadly poison, has been detected in
          tube-well waters at four villages in Kandi union of Pirgacha upazila
          of the district. 
            
          The
          Executive Engineer of Public Health and Engineering department
          disclosed this at a meeting of local health service development
          committee held on Monday. 
          Its
          president and State Minister for Forest and Environment HN Ashiqur
          Rahman chaired the meeting. 
            
          Deputy
          Commissioner, Police Super, district Civil Surgeon, Deputy Civil
          Surgeon, Executive Engineer, Public Works department, Deputy Director,
          Family Planning, Acting Principal, Rangpur Medical College and
          Hospital, all the upazila health officers, president, Rangpur Chamber
          of Commerce and Industry, among others, attended the meeting. 
            
          The
          PHED Executive Engineer said that they had tested waters of 168
          tube-wells in the four villages and found 50 of them arsenic
          contaminated. 
            
          The
          affected villages are Pathok Shekor, East Pathok Shekor, Dadon andChapra.  
                                  
          The
          contaminated tube-wells have been sealed and the people advised not to
          use waters of those tube-wells, the PHED officials said. 
            
          The
          meeting was further informed that 11 people have been affected with
          arsenic contamination in the four villages. They are now undergoing
          treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
