Apr 11 (UNB) – Ahead of the jute cultivation this season, smuggled
low quality jute seeds have flooded the markets of the district that
forebodes ill for the growers.
Several
thousand maunds of Indian jute seeds coming through Satkhira, Benapole
and Kaliganj borders are being sold in the rural hats and bazars of
Mollarhat Muksudpur, Gazarampur and Kashiani areas.

Cultivation getting popular

Apr 11 (UNB) – Maize cultivation is getting popular in the district
as farmers find it giving better returns with more yields than other
crops.
Sources
at the Agriculture Extension Department (AED) said maize gives twice
the yield of paddy and it needs less fertilizer and irrigation as well
as little care.
