Three
people killed in a road mishap

Naogaon,
May 10 (UNB) – Three people were killed and eight others injured in
a road mishap at Chourasta crossing in Badalgachi upazila on Sunday
morning.
Police
and witnesses said Abu Bakar, 40, died on the spot and 10 others were
injured when a Naogaon-bound bus coming from Nazirpur rammed into the
roadside shops when the driver lost its control over the steering.

Suicide
rising in Naogaon

Naogaon,
May 7 (UNB) - The trend of suicide has marked an alarming rise in the
district for various reasons including poverty and frustration.
According
to a recent survey conducted by an NGO, nearly 400 people, mostly
women, committed suicide in the district last year.

Boro
paddy under water for incessant rain

May 5 (UNB) – Standing boro paddy on 50,000 hectares of land in the
district went under water following incessant rain for the last few
days.
Officials
said low-lying areas of Raninagar, Atrai, Mohadevpur and Porsha
upzilas, including Dighli, Beelbhobani and Guta beel in Sadar upzila,
were inundated by the rainwater.

Three
people to life term jail

Apr 24 (UNB) – A court here recently convicted three people and
sentenced them to life term in jail in a murder case.
The
lifers are yarn traders Abul Kalam of Tangail district, Harendra
Chandra Barman of Dhamrairhat and Shahabuddin of Mohadevpur upazila in
Naogaon.

IRRI
production hampered

Apr 22 (UNB) - Production of IRRI-Boro paddy may be hampered in the
district during the current season due to intermittent power supply
and low-voltage.
Agriculture
Extension Department sources said additional lands as against the
cultivation target of 1.48 lakh hectares were brought under IRRI-Boro
cultivation this year with a production target of 4.21 lakh mts of
paddy.

Crime
rising but local administration inactive

Naogaon, Apr 21 (UNB) – Serious crimes like
killing, mugging, robbery and extortion have marked an alarming rise
in the district due to inaction of the local administration.
Police said three people were killed in Sadar
Upazila alone last week.
A gang of miscreants shot dead a young man,
Bachchu, at Ukilpara in the town on April 10.
In another incident, unidentified terrorists called shopkeeper
Sumon, 20, out his shop and slaughtered him on April 13.

abducted by his sons

Naogaon, Apr 21 (UNB) - Police rescued a
kidnapped man and arrested his five sons from Raninagar Upazila Monday
on charge of abduction.
Police said Mozammel Hossain of village Dudia in
Adamdighi upazila of Bogra and his wife took refuge at one of their
relatives’ house at Karaj village in Raninagar upzila in the face of
threat by his seven sons following a dispute over their land property.

services hampered in hospitals

Apr 17 (UNB) – Medical services in hospitals of the district are
seriously being hampered as over 50 percent posts of physician and
health worker have long been lying vacant.
Official
sources said 93 posts, out of 163, in Sadar Hospital, thana health
complexes and other government health centers in the district could
not yet be filled up despite repeated appeals.

Housewife strangulated allegedly by
husband

Naogaon,
Apr 17 (UNB) – A housewife was strangulated allegedly by her husband
in Bazar area of the town on Saturday.
Police
said Syed Sajedul alias Masum killed his wife Zinat, 20, an HSC
examinee of Naogaon Govt Women’s College, and took her to Sadar
Hospital saying that she was injured in a road accident.
